Cosmetics and disposable packaging

The cosmetic industry has an estimated turnover of 800 billion dollar. An industry this size has a huge impact on the environment of course. Does this industry take its responsibility to reduce the environmental impact of their products?

Yes and No

There are a lot of small innovative brands that try to reduce their ecological footprint but (surprisingly) a lot of the bigger brands in the cosmetics industry don’t seem to care.

Looking at the use of disposable plastic this industry is a huge contaminator and seeing the fact that packaging for products such as make-up are amongst the most difficult to recycle this is a serious challenge.

Luckily there are solutions to this issue. For example plastic packaging made from elephant grass.
